Installation & Troubleshooting FAQs

Photon™ Installation FAQs

Here are answers to some of the more common installation questions we get.

How do OgenaShield Air & Surface Purifier by Puraclenz units keep my environment safe?

The driving factor behind Puraclenz technology is an abundance of Multi-Clustered Ions in the environment.  These ions are air molecules with an electrical charge; they are not heavier or lighter than standard air.  The goal is to have even ion coverage throughout the entire space you are seeking to protect.

Where in my business or home should I place my OgenaShield Air & Surface Purifier by Puraclenz unit(s)?

Units should be placed evenly throughout your indoor space, in areas of greatest concern (ie moldy basement), and in the most open areas of your space.  Units can be placed on a table or mounted on the wall or ceiling.

How do Puraclenz ions fill indoor spaces?

Because ions share many characteristics with the movement of heat, the easiest way to visualize where you should put multiple units is to figure out where would be the best place to put the same number of space heaters.  The ions will act very similar to how heat is dispersed, ensuring even coverage for your OgenaShield Air & Surface Purifier by Puraclenz units.

Should I place my Photon series on the floor?

We do not recommend that you place units on the floor. Carpet static will attract some of the ions that should be in the air. This can decrease the efficiency and effectiveness of your purifier.

How do open windows and exterior doors impact Puraclenz technology?

Some ions will escape through windows and doors, but it is not a significant factor in most situations.  If a door or window is open to the outside for extended periods, it will reduce the coverage area of Puraclenz technology.

Where can I mount the Photon series on a wall?

Ogena recommends placing wall-mounted units between 6’-9’ off the floor. In spaces with ceilings over 12 feet, place your unit no higher than 9 feet off the floor.

What impact do closed interior doors and other closed spaces have on the efficiency of Puraclenz technology?

Ions cannot travel through doors or walls but will seep through cracks at a slower rate than an open space.

What impact do common materials have on Puraclenz technology?

Puraclenz ions are broken down by anything with a slight electrical charge.  This includes humans, plants, and animals (none of which will be harmed) as well as mold spores, bacteria, and viruses (which will be destroyed).  Additionally, any other part of the environment that carries a static charge will absorb some amount of ionization until the static charge is depleted; this includes most plastics, loose-weave carpet, foam products, and many synthetic materials.  If there is a very high amount of static-conducting material in the space, additional coverage may be recommended.

My space has __________ in it.  How does that impact Puraclenz technology?

OgenaShield Air & Surface Purifier by Puraclenz units are rated to cover a specified volume of indoor space with standard indoor characteristics (office or home use).  Some environments have factors that may impact the coverage of the unit:

    • An extreme amount of static-conductive material Gyms, gymnastic flooring, plastic tarp dividers, exposed foam insulation, plastic or acrylic walls [such as a greenhouse] will reduce the coverage area of Puraclenz technology.
    • A very high amount of biological load (animal boarding facilities, mold growth, indoor grow houses, dirt floors, or certain laboratory settings) will reduce the coverage area of Puraclenz technology.
    • An above-average amount of airflow in commercial kitchens with vent hoods, Extremely powerful exhaust fans, etc. will reduce the coverage area of Puraclenz technology.
    • A very closed-concept building with many closed-off areas will reduce the coverage area of Puraclenz technology. If possible, leave doors open at night to give Puraclenz technology the opportunity to fill the space with ionization and clean the environment overnight.
    • A swimming pool or other open source of water will not have a negative impact on Puraclenz technology, but the additional biological load associated with bodies of water may reduce the coverage area of your unit. Puraclenz technology will not inhibit growth or kill pathogens in the water. Do not place your OgenaShield Air & Surface Purifier by Puraclenz unit in any place that can fall into a body of water.

Photon™ Power and Environmental Requirements

What are the power supply, temperature, and humidity requirements for the Photon models to run well in my home or business? What are the electrical requirements?

Our three Photon models, Q63000, Q61500, and Q60750, are powered by a standard USA electrical grounded outlet (120V/60Hz) and only consume 15W of power. Each includes a 6ft long power cord with a 3-prong Type B USA plug.

What other factors affect the efficiency of the Puraclenz PCO process?

Puraclenz PCO process operates most efficiently at temperatures above 62 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity levels above 40 percent. As temperature and humidity drop below these levels, ion generation and diffusion will decrease.

2. Please remove the Photon™ Pre-Filter. (If your pre-filter is dirty, change it or order new Photon™ Pre-Filter ).

3. Reinsert the Photon™ Pre-Filter press it firmly inside the purifier. When the fit is correct you should hear an audible click.

Photon green operational-1

Can I turn the green light off?

No, the green light is the power light and an indicator the unit is on and working properly.

The green operational light is flashing, is that normal?

If the green light is flashing, make sure that the power cord is fully connected to the receptacle on the bottom of the Purifier. Ensure that you are getting enough voltage. The voltage requirement is 120V.

If that does not solve your problem, contact inquiries@ogenasolutions.com about the issue.

My fan speed seems low. Is that normal?

The OgenaShield Air & Surface Purifier by Puraclenz Photon™ has 3 models, each with a different intake rate of airflow. The higher the airflow, the greater the density of ions being released at the top of each unit. Higher airflow also causes more fan noise. The fan only draws air into our PCO cells as part of the ion generation process. Photon™ units are not filtering room air as part of the “cleaning” process. The ions our units generate diffuse passively throughout your indoor space.

The blue light inside has turned off. Is my unit still working?

Your unit is working as intended. Regarding the light turning off, we have intentionally designed the OgenaShield Air & Surface Purifier by Puraclenz Photon™ purifiers to have downtime for the crystalline matrix of our coating to regenerate to a more highly reactive surface chemistry. For 20 minutes every 2 hours the UV light turns off,  allowing the lamps a rest period which reduces their temperature and extends the operation life of the reactor cell. This downtime is integral to the performance of our technology.  All Puraclenz efficacy testing has been conducted with this downtime, and the space is still covered by our ionization during the time that the lights within the units are off.

How often should I replace the Photon filter and cell?

Photon parts maintenance schedules

Photon Pre-Filter: How and when to clean or replace the pre-filters.

Each Photon™ series PCO unit comes with 2 pre-filters. The pre-filter is designed to protect the unit’s cell from dust and large particulate matter so that it functions properly. Each Pre-Filter can be used for up to 6 months before it needs to be cleaned or replaced. The length of time you can run your Photon™ series unit before cleaning the pre-filter depends on how dusty your environment is. We recommend changing/ washing the pre-filter at least every 6 months, more often if your indoor environment is dusty or if you have shedding pets.

It’s important to keep your pre-filter dust-free. You can clean your pre-filter by removing it from the unit and gently tapping it upside down into a trash receptacle. You can also run cool tap water through the filter so that the dust is cleared.

  • NOTE: Removing the pre-filter will turn the photon unit off. This does not damage the unit. It will turn back on when you re-insert the clean filter. The pre-filter should be dry before installing it into the slot at the bottom of your Photon™ series unit.

The Photon™ series has indicator lights that will automatically notify you when to change the pre-filter.

  • NOTE:  If you have a dusty indoor environment or own a pet that sheds a lot, we strongly recommend you check the pre-filter monthly to ensure proper airflow through our catalyst.

Filter tray open warning
